Join us for a special weekend with Tamra Henna, a beloved dancer and teacher with deep roots in the Austin bellydance community. This immersive workshop weekend will explore technique, musicality, props, and stagecraft — culminating in a vibrant studio hafla performance. Whether you are reconnecting with finger cymbals, exploring wings choreography, or learning how to stage a dynamic group performance, this weekend offers inspiration and practical tools for dancers ready to deepen their skills.

ABOUT TAMRA HENNA
 

Tamra Henna began her belly dance journey in 1992 with Z-Helene, quickly falling in love with both the art form and the thriving Austin belly dance community. Inspired by the glamour of the Golden Era of Egyptian cinema, the expressive style of Lebanese stars, and the powerful presence of American nightclub dancers, she developed a distinctive pan-Arabian style that blends influences from across cultures and eras.

In 2001, Tamra moved to Dallas where she became a prominent performer across North Texas. She appeared regularly at private events, restaurants, nightclubs, and cultural festivals, and for over a decade was the lead dancer at the region’s most prestigious Lebanese nightclub. During this time she also performed with three award-winning dance groups, appeared in several instructional DVDs, and was featured in the stage production Virginia: Reflections in 2018.

Tamra’s passion for teaching led her to establish the Dallas School of Belly Dance in 2005. Her structured program helped guide students from their first steps through confident performance, and many of her former students have gone on to become professional dancers and instructors. Her teaching has also cultivated a vibrant community where dancers build lasting friendships and a lifelong love of the art form.

In 2021, Tamra relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she continues to perform, teach workshops, and mentor dancers across the country.

FINGER CYMBALS WORKSHOP $65
Friday, April 10
6:30–8:30 PM
Killer Drills 4 Killer Zills

Exercises and games designed to help integrate your finger cymbal playing with your dancing. These drills are playful brainteasers that train coordination and musicality so you can dance and play naturally and confidently.

Requirements: Participants should already be proficient with finger cymbals. Bring: Your own cymbals. Suggested level = intermediate and above.

 

WINGS WORKSHOP $125
“Gharib ya Zaman” — Dynamic Wings Choreography
Saturday, April 11
10:00 AM – 3:00 PM (1hr lunch)

Learn an exciting wings choreography set to a classic song with a distinctive Lebanese feel. This workshop explores musical phrasing, movement pathways, and dramatic stage presence while working with wings.

Suitable for dancers comfortable learning choreography and working with props. Suggested level = advanced-beginner and above. Bring: Your own wings or a veil. Wings can be ordered on Amazon for under $30

 

STRUCTURED STAGING FOR PERFORMANCE
Sunday, April 12
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Take the choreography from Saturday and bring it to life on stage. This workshop focuses on staging, spacing, formations, and performance dynamics for group presentations. Note: Participation requires attendance at the Saturday Wings Choreography workshop. Suggested level = intermediate and above.

 

HAFLA PERFORMANCE  $15
Saturday, April 11 – 7pm
Ladies only. Celebrate a joyful evening of dance featuring a special performance by Tamra Henna along with performances by members of the Austin bellydance community. Additional details coming soon.
