Ragaey Hussein: Reda-style dance weekend

Bahaia and Debbie are delighted to co-host renowned Egyptian dance instructor Ragaey Hussein for a very special Reda-style dance weekend intensive in Austin, his first time ever in the Southern US. Join us for a weekend of history, technique and choreography focused on the Reda style and technique.Ragaey is not only a veteran of the Reda Troupe but also an internationally recognized workshop instructor with a wealth of knowledge and experience, now based in New York.
Schedule of events:
Friday night 7-9PM: reception and presentation on the history and role of the Reda Troupe, followed by a Q & A with Ragaey and time for discussion.
Saturday morning 10AM-12:30PM: class introducing the fundamentals of the Reda technique, using the exercises and movements developed by Mahmoud Reda.
Saturday afternoon 1:30-3:30PM: learn an original Reda-style choreography created by Ragaey.
Saturday 5PM: in-studio show for workshop participants only, featuring Ragaey- showcase your dance to an audience of fellow dancers in a casual and intimate environment.
Sunday morning 11AM-1PM: a two-hour workshop in theatrical folkloric Saidi (upper Egyptian) style dance.
Registration:
-Limited to 20 participants
-Registration is for the full weekend package only- no a la carte registrations available.
-Price is $240, and includes admission to all activities listed above (over 8 hours).
-This workshop is designed to be cumulative, with each session building on the next- so please plan on attending everything!
About Ragaey:
Ragaey is a veteran of the Reda Troupe, with almost 40 years’ experience presenting this iconic style of Egyptian theatrical folkloric dance. He has traveled to every country except Australia with the troupe, representing Egypt around the world. He joined the troupe in 1988 and was a standout performer, excelling in the whole repertoire, until his exit in 2016 to focus on teaching. An internationally recognized workshop instructor and choreographer, he has 20 years of experience working with dancers from around the globe, as an instructor in Egyptian festivals including Raqia Hassan’s Ahlan wa Sahlan and Randa Kamal’s Raqs Of Course, and in countries as diverse as Russia, Morocco, China, Japan, Korea, Central Asia and Europe.
